DIGITAL EYE STRAIN PROTECTION IN WINDSOR AND TECUMSEH

WHAT IS DIGITAL EYE STRAIN?

Now more than ever, we are reliant on the daily use of technology. Digital eye strain comes from extended use of digital screens and can lead to a range of symptoms, such as:

  • Double or Blurred Vision

  • Headaches

  • Sore Back and Neck

  • Dry Eyes

  • Tired or Sore Eyes

  • Trouble Focusing

  • Trouble Sleeping

  • General Fatigue

HOW SCREENS AFFECT YOUR EYES

As our eyes get fixated on digital screens, there is a combination of factors that can lead to the symptoms listed above.

Blue Light is part of the visible light spectrum and is found everywhere in our world. It used to be that our only source of blue light came from the sun. We've now introduced blue light into our homes through all types of digital screens and electronic devices (TVs, smartphones, computers, tablets).

Natural blue light helps us regulate our sleep and wake cycles (circadian rhythm) by boosting our alertness. So with increased exposure to blue light through devices, especially in the evening, your brain may have a harder time shutting down when it's time for bed. This can result in poor sleep, and with extended time spent being fixated on these screens, our eyes become more prone to strain and dryness.

HOW WE CAN HELP

To help manage digital eye strain, we can recommend computer glasses with additional coatings that will block blue light and go over other tips based on the symptoms you're experiencing. We can prescribe lenses that will provide comfort and reduce strain on your vision. Contact us to book an appointment with our professionals at Bellemore Optometry today.
